The Canadian Crop Hail Association says more than 10-thousand damage claims have been received by its member companies so far this year.
At the mid-point of the year, Saskatchewan farmers have filed nearly 6,900 claims — the most on the Prairies — with Alberta at 2,000 claims and Manitoba with 1,300 claims.
Farmers in the three western provinces made 900 claims between July 27 and Aug. 6. However, the number could jump as reports are still being received.
The association says the five-year average for Alberta and Saskatchewan is up slightly, while Manitoba is down somewhat for the hail season, which ends in October.
