Hurricanes sign trio of players over Labour Day weekend

LETHBRIDGE, AB – It was a busy weekend for the Lethbridge Hurricanes.

In addition to holding their training camp, the WHL team signed three players.

JARED PICKLYK

On Aug. 30, the team announced they had signed 2003-born goalie Jared Picklyk to a WHL Standard Player Agreement. The 16-year-old was drafted by the Hurricanes 148th overall in the seventh round of the 2018 WHL Bantam Draft.

He spent this past season with the Okanagan Rockets Minor Midget team in the BC Minor Midget Hockley League. He recorded a 2.19 goals against average. He stands 6’2” and 175-pounds.

CHASE PAULS

Defenseman Chase Pauls was also signed by the team, they announced on Saturday. The 15-year-old was undrafted in the Bantam Draft.

He appeared in 32 regular season games with the Warman Wildcats Midget AA team of the CFHL. He racked up 34 points (10 goals, 24 assists) along with 18 penalty minutes.

Pauls added one assist in four post-season games.

He also appeared in two regular season games with the Prince Albert Mintos of the Saskatchewan Midget Hockey League, where he dished out one assist. He was held pointless in five post-season games and is committed to spend the 2019-2020 season with Prince Albert.

TY NASH

On Sunday, the ‘Canes announced the signing of forward Ty Nash.

He was drafted by the Hurricanes 183rd overall in the ninth round of the 2018 WHL Bantam Draft.

The Scottsdale, Arizona product appeared in 24 regular season games with the Phoenix Junior Coyotes Under-15 team last year. He scored 15 goals and recorded 16 assists, along with 44 penalty minutes.

The Hurricanes noted that in Nash’s Bantam Draft year, he scored eight goals and had six assists with 51 penalty minutes in 26 games with the Arizona Bobcats 14U team.

The 16-year-old is the son of former Kamloops Blazer and NHL player Tyson Nash.

The Lethbridge Hurricanes start off their ENMAX pre-season this Friday, Sept. 6 against the Red Deer Rebels.
