12 new players added to Pronghorns men’s hockey team

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Ahead of the upcoming Canada West season, the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns men’s hockey team has announced a slew of new players.

Eight forwards, two defencemen and two goaltenders will hit the ice for the U of L this season.

Former Calgary Hitmen forward Luke Coleman is one of the new recruits. He played 297 games in the WHL and according to his team, will put to use his WHL Scholarship package.

This past season, the Red Deer native scored 20 goals and recorded 44 points with the Hitmen. Before playing in Calgary, he suited up for the Prince Albert Raiders.

Joining Coleman on the roster are:

Michael Clarke – the forward played last season with the Humboldt Broncos, recording 71 points (28 goals, 43 assists). Clarke’s previous experience includes time in the AJHL and BCHL.

Owen Guenter – the forward played alongside Clarke with the Broncos last season, recording 52 points (13 goals, 39 assists). The previous two seasons, he suited up for the Olds Grizzlys of the AJHL.

Kyle Gordon – The forward’s played the last four seasons with the AJHL’s Okotoks Oilers. Last season, he scored 14 goals and dished out 24 assists.

Daniel Gatenby – The defenceman spent last season on Vancouver Island, scoring one goal and recording five assists for the Nanaimo Clippers of the BCHL.

Josh Patrician – The defenceman, like Clarke and Guenter, played last season with the Humboldt Broncos. He recorded seven goals and 32 assists.

Mackenzie Mindus – The Whitecourt native played in the Maritimes last season, for the MHL’s Grand Falls Rapids. The forward scored six goals and had 13 assists.

Jared Janke – The Airdrie-born centreman played with the Campbellton Tigers of the MHL last campaign. He recorded 35 points (10 goals, 25 assists).

George King – The forward has plenty of hockey experience, spending time in the AJHL, BCHL, MJHL, WHL and most recently, with the Melfort Mustangs of the SJHL, where he wrapped up last season. He recorded 19 points (9 goals, 10 assists) in 20 games with the team.

Josh Borynec – The centreman split last season with the Olds Grizzlys of the AJHL and the Melville Millionaires of the SJHL. In 45 games with Melville, he scored 18 goals and recorded 29 assists.

Jack Burgart – The goaltender played last season with Bemidji State University (WCHA). In one game played with the team, his Goals Against Average was 5.45. Prior to this, he played three seasons with the Weyburn Red Wings of the SJHL.

Nik Amundrud – Goalie Amundrud played in six games with the ACHW’s Rosetown Red Wings, accumulating a GAA of 2.00. Before this, he played two seasons with the BCHL’s West Kelowna Warriors and spent time in the WHL and SJHL.

The Pronghorns open their non-conference schedule September 14 and 15. They’ll be in Red Deer against the ACAC’s Red Deer Kings. The Horns will host the Mount Royal Cougars on September 21 to close out their non-conference schedule.

The 2019-2020 Canada West season opens on September 27. The Pronghorns will travel to Winnipeg to face the Manitoba Bisons.

The U of L squad’s home opener is set for October 11 when they host the Regina Cougars.
