Winners of Lethbridge’s Allied Arts Council Excellence Awards announced

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Artists, organizations, and businesses are being recognized for their contribution to the arts in the city.

The Allied Arts Council of Lethbridge has announced the following 2019 Allied Arts Council Excellence (AACE) award recipients:

AACE Individual Award:

  • Richard Amery – For his contributions to the arts through the online magazine, L.A. Beat, his work with various theatre companies, writing for Sun Times, and hosting a radio show on CKXU.

AACE Business Award:

  • Subaru of Lethbridge – Owner Luke Davis and his team created the S.O.L.A.R. Awards which celebrates local and regional creatives through an arts exhibition and competition.

AACE Service Organization Award:

  • Lethbridge Public School District No. 51, Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Separate Regional Division No. 4, and École La Vérendyre – For producing Arts Alive and Well in schools for more than four decades. More than 16,000 pieces of artwork from K-12 students have been curated and displayed at the Southern Alberta Art Gallery.

Allied Arts Council Young Artist Award:

  • Megan Wittig – For being an accomplished vocalist and a passionate music advocate. She teaches voice in lessons and in camp settings and serves as a volunteer board director for two non-profit fine arts groups. She has been awarded $1,000.

Joan Waterfield Memorial Award:

  • Don Robb – For being an integral part of Lethbridge’s music community as an educator, performer, board member, volunteer, and advocate for the past four decades. He is a founding member of the Lethbridge Jazz Society,

The award winners will be formally honoured at the 14th Annual Mayor’s Luncheon for Business and the Arts on Thursday, September 19th from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm at the Sandman Signature Lethbridge Lodge.
