LETHBRIDGE, AB – The official campaigning period has started for the 2019 federal election and a wide slate of candidates are vying for your vote.

Rachael Harder is the constituency’s current MP, representing the Conservative Party of Canada. She will be seeking her second term in office.

Harder was appointed by Party Leader Andrew Scheer in August 2017 to be the Shadow Minister for the Status of Women and is a member of the Standing Committee on the Status of Women.

Running for the Liberal Party of Canada in Lethbridge is Amy Bronson. She has a Master’s Degree in Global Affairs from the University of Toronto and has spent much of her working life as a management consultant in Canada and abroad.

Shandi Bleiken hopes to become the city’s first NDP MP. She wants to do more to represent members of the LGBTQI2+ community and others who face discrimination. Bleiken works for the University of Lethbridge and volunteers with several local non-profits.

The Green Party will have Stephnie Watson as their candidate. Watson has a Master’s Degree in Environmental Sciences from the University of Lethbridge and runs a local company that works to relay scientific information to the public, businesses, and governments.

Only one man is running locally in the federal election, which is Grant Hepworth of the People’s Party of Canada. He hopes to be one of the first-ever MP’s for the brand new party, campaigning on a party platform of diminishing regulations, significantly cutting taxes, and reducing immigration levels.

Canadians will head to the polls October 21st to elect their local MP’s and determine who the country’s prime minister will be.
