COALDALE, AB – At approximately 1:00 am on Thursday, September 12th, Coaldale RCMP, the Coaldale Fire Department, and EMS were called to a single-vehicle collision just north of the town’s industrial area.

According to RCMP, an older BMW was traveling at a high speed on 11th Street and entered a field when the road ended. It flipped and came to rest on the passenger’s side.

“The rollover ignited the car which burned significantly,” reads a media release from Coaldale RCMP. “Both occupants were found outside the car.”

The driver, a 25-year-old man from Lethbridge, was pronounced deceased at the scene after suffering severe burns.

A 20-year-old female passenger sustained serious injuries. She was first taken to Chinook Regional Hospital in Lethbridge and was later transported to a medical facility in Calgary. Her condition was reported as serious, but non-life-threatening.

All possible contributing factors are being investigated by Coaldale RCMP and a collision analyst from Lethbridge. Weather and road conditions are said to have been fine at the time.
