LETHBRIDGE — A vehicle collision with 13-year-old cyclist Friday (Sept 13) night resulted in injuries to the cyclist. However, no charges are pending against the vehicle driver.

Around 8 p.m. a vehicle collided with a cyclist along Dieppe Boulevard South.

A police investigation determined a 64-year-old man was driving southbound along Dieppe when he collided with the young male cyclist who was eastbound along Astra Street and rode in front of the vehicle.

At the time of the collision it was dark, the boy did not have a light on his bike and he was not wearing a helmet.

EMS transported the boy to hospital for treatment of head injuries. He was later transferred to the Children’s Hospital in Calgary where he remains in stable condition.

Police remind the public that all cyclists under 18 are required by law to wear a helmet – those over 18 are strongly encouraged to wear one – and all bicycles must have a headlamp.
