Canada announces starting lineup for Rugby World Cup opener against Italy
Canada will be without forward Evan Olmstead and winger Taylor Paris when it opens Rugby World Cup play Thursday against Italy in Japan.
Both are nursing knocks and have been ruled out of the match at Fukuoka Hakatanomori Stadium in Fukuoka City.
Canada, ranked 22nd in the world, holds a 2-7-0 all-time record against No. 14 Italy. But the Canadian men ran the Italians close at the 2015 tournament, losing 23-18 in Leeds, England.
The Italians won their opening Pool B match Sunday, defeating No. 23 Namibia 47-22. Top-ranked New Zealand downed No. 5 South Africa 23-13 in the opening Pool B match Saturday.
