CLARESHOLM, AB – Two communities in Southern Alberta are among six in the province being honoured by the Government of Alberta.

Minister of Municipal Affairs Kaycee Madu says the annual awards celebrate successful and innovative municipal initiatives that improve the lives of their residents.

The Town of Claresholm was given the Safe Communities Award for the Risk Reduction Community Coalition.

According to the province, it aims to connect police, Alberta Health Services, and first responders with students and families to “change behaviours, thoughts and feelings associated with the risks young people face, and to eliminate destructive choices.”

The Partnership Award went to the County of Warner for the Milk River Ridge Reservoir Water Quality Stewardship Initiative.

The aim of this project is to explore, assess, and implement strategies to improve management of the provincial land corridor and nearby private lands.

A total of 33 municipalities submitted applications to the provincial government for the Minister’s Awards for Municipal Excellence.
