LETHBRIDGE, AB – If you’ve ever thought about joining the Army Reserve, you might want to check out an event in Lethbridge this weekend.

Vimy Ridge Armoury will open its doors to the public for the National Army Reserve Job Fair. It’s scheduled for Saturday, September 28 at 10:00 a.m.

The Armoury is located at 337 Stubb Ross Road in Lethbridge. Anyone attending will be able to meet up with an ask Army Reservists questions, view interactive displays and take part in different activities.

“You’re going to see Reserve soldiers manning interactive displays for the public to explore and ask questions about potential opportunities that lie within the Army Reserve,” said Lieutenant (Navy) Kevin Moffat of 41 Canadian Brigade Group.

“Lethbridge’s (fair) is being hosted this time by the 20th Independent Field Battery, which is a self-component of the Royal Canadian Artillery, so we’re going to have Howitzers there and all kinds of big guns that go ‘boom!’”

A recruiter will be on site for anyone looking to join the Army Reserve, and Moffat said there are many benefits to a career in the Army Reserve.

“We have the new full-time summer employment program, which guarantees reservists full-time summer employment for the first four years of their career – which is very beneficial for university students because I know when I was one, finding work was always hard,” he remarked.

“We also offer a career like no other in the sense that we can take you across the country and give you training and opportunities which are very hard to find in the civilian world.”

Moffat added that they’re encouraging aspiring musicians to visit the fair.

“People don’t know this about the Army Reserve, [but] we actually have a very active band that we use for outreach and we’re always looking for talented musicians to augment it,” he explained.

“The Army is just like any very large organization. We have a job for everybody…and we highly encourage people to come down and check it out. I know I will be down there.”
