LETHBRIDGE, AB – Lethbridge College has named a new chair for its Board of Governors.

Michael Marcotte has been appointed to the role by the Ministry of Advanced Education for a three-year term. Marcotte has close to three decades of experience owning and operating restaurants and catering companies across Alberts.

Some of these include Moxie’s Bar & Grill in Lethbridge, The Italian Table, and Prime Catering Company, the latter two which he developed.

The Red Seal chef trained in Saskatchewan before moving to Alberta in 1990.

“I’m really interested in helping to define the future of education,” Marcotte said in a release from Lethbridge College.

“The world is changing really fast, and the college has a great opportunity to be very nimble in how it responds to the changing economy. Business has never been more dynamic, so we need to be able to respond to that. I think this will be a great way for me to continue to give back to my community and to the college in particular.”

In 2017, Prime Catering Company received the Spirit of Lethbridge award for philanthropy from the Lethbridge Chamber of Commerce. In 2018, Prime earned the Business of the Year award.

Even more recently, Marcotte and Prime were awarded an Inspiring Philanthropy award in the small business category by the Association of Fundraising Professionals Southern Alberta Chapter.

Italian Table was named Best New Restaurant in Lethbridge’s yearly Best of the Best Awards in 2018.

Marcotte replaces former chair Kristin Ailsby. Ailsby stepped down last February after being appointed a judge on the provincial court.

The Board of Governors’ next meeting is scheduled for October 29, 2019.
