LETHBRIDGE, AB – Lethbridge College has received a significant gift from Corus Entertainment.

The company has donated $52,000 to the school. It will help support the creation of a new active-learning newsroom. It will also go towards the creation of new financial awards for students in the Digital Communications and Media program.

The College said that the newsroom will modernize the Endeavour room, which currently serves primarily as a print-based journalism centre. Upgrades will allow students and instructors to quickly share content and work in individual stations that replicate modern newsrooms used in the professional world to create television, online, radio and digital stories.

A Global News Journalism Award will also be created to support two students in the program each year.

“We are thankful that Corus and Global News share our vision of preparing students for what happens next in their careers,” said Dr. Paula Burns, Lethbridge College President and CEO, in a release from the school.

“They are leaders in the broadcasting industry, and we are so fortunate for their endorsement of, and involvement in, our program. This partnership will help us produce the next generation of journalists needed for the rapidly-changing industry.”
