U of L and Lethbridge College Weekend Sports Recap: Oct. 4-6, 2019

LETHBRIDGE, AB – A strong weekend for the Lethbridge College Kodiaks soccer teams, with many other teams in action over the Friday to Sunday period.

Here are some of the results from this weekend.

LETHBRIDGE COLLEGE KODIAKS

A 1-1 tie with SAIT on Saturday (Oct. 5) and a 2-0 win over Olds College Sunday has the Kodiaks men’s soccer team tied for first place with Red Deer in the ACAC south division. There are four games left on the regular season. The Kodiaks face Medicine Hat College next Sunday (Oct. 13) at Servus Centre Field.

On the women’s side, they tied with SAIT 3-3 on Saturday and beat Olds College 2-0 Sunday. The strong weekend performances put them in first place, overtaking Olds College in the ACAC south division.

Like the men, the women’s team hosts Medicine Hat for a Thanksgiving weekend matchup next Sunday (Oct. 13).

The women’s basketball went undefeated at SAIT this weekend, beating the Okanagan 69-44 last Thursday (Oct. 3), defeating Concordia University of Edmonton 54-46 on Friday and the Douglas College Royals 75-43 on Sunday.

The men’s volleyball team beat the College of the Rockies 3-1 on Friday (Oct. 4), then lost 3-1 to the team later on in the evening.

They redeemed themselves to beat the College of the Rockies later Saturday (Oct. 5) 4-0. Before that, they defeated Ambrose University 3-1.

The women’s volleyball club lost against the University of Alberta-Augustana Friday (Oct. 4) 3-0, before beating NAIT 3-1 on Saturday at Lakeland College. The LC event continued with the Kodiaks losing to Keyano College, 3-2. They closed the weekend with a 3-1 loss against Briercrest College on Sunday.

U OF L PRONGHORNS

The women’s soccer team’s record now sits at 0-4-5, putting them in a fight for the final playoff position in the Canada West Prairie Division. They tied 1-1 against the University of Saskatchewan Saturday (Oct. 5) before a 1-1 tie with the U of Regina Cougars on Sunday.

The men’s team lost 3-1 versus the University of Calgary Sunday.

The men’s basketball team beat Medicine Hat College Friday and Saturday. In Friday’s game, the final score was 85-62. In Saturday’s evening matchup, the final was 99-80 for the Pronghorns.

The women’s team went 2-1 over the weekend. They lost 62-50 against the U of Saskatchewan Friday, before beating Concordia University (Quebec) 80-68 on Saturday. The weekend closed with a 71-55 win over the University of Regina.

The women’s hockey team beat the University of Manitoba Friday. The final score was 4-3. In a rematch Saturday, the ‘Horns won 4-1.

Capping off the weekend highlights for the Pronghorns was the women’s rugby team. The team reclaimed the Suggitt Cup with a strong 34-12 win against the Alberta Pandas. The win helped the Pronghorns snap a three-game losing skid and improve to 2-3 on the season.

The ‘Horns are in Calgary on Friday to wrap up the Canada West season with a meeting against the University of Calgary Dinos. In two weeks, the U of L will host the Canada West Championship.

Pronghorns golfers competed at the inaugural Canada West Golf Championship in Kelowna over the weekend. However, it was Daniel Campbell of the University of the Fraser Valley Cascades who took home the men’s trophy after a four-under 68 on Sunday.

Shania Remandaban of the UBC Thunderbirds won on the women’s side with a two-under 70.

The University of the Fraser Valley took home the men’s team trophy, while the UBC Thunderbirds took it home for the women.
