Slow harvests could be a mental health concern for some area farmers
ALBERTA — A lot of rain this summer and now the snow has made for a stressful harvest season and it’s bad news for farmers who rely on quality crops for income.
Alberta Agriculture says harvest progress for major crops at the beginning of October, was 20 points behind the provincial five-year average.
The Peace region was 34 points behind its 5-year average, followed by the Northeast at 25 below, the Central back 24 points, the Northwest 18 below and the south estimated at 4 points under.
The regional average for swathed major crops is estimated at 29 per cent. Recent snow and rain brought harvest to a halt in many areas
