LETHBRIDGE, AB – Alberta Health Services (AHS) is gearing up to start their Influenza Immunization Clinics the week of October 21st.

In Lethbridge, the public clinic will be at the Exhibition Park Main Pavilion on the following days:

  • Tuesday, October 22nd
  • Saturday, October 26th
  • Tuesday, October 29th
  • Thursday, November 7th
  • Wednesday, November 20th

“Getting your flu shot is one of the best things you can do to protect your own health and that of your community; and it’s never been easier,” says Health Minister Tyler Shandro. “I encourage all Albertans to join me in getting immunized this season by visiting their local pharmacy or doctor’s office, or an AHS public clinic.”

Flu shots will be given for free to all Albertans over five years of age at pharmacies and to Albertans six months or older at public clinics and some doctors’ offices.

In the 2018-2019 flu season, approximately 31% of Albertans got immunized.

For this year, the government has ordered enough vaccines for 35% of the population at a cost of $12.5-million.

“Over the past 10 years, Alberta pharmacists have become the single largest provider of influenza vaccine to Albertans,” says President of the Alberta Pharmacists’ Association Darren Erickson. “As front- line health-care providers, one of our primary roles is to help people stay healthy. Vaccination protects the most vulnerable people in our communities and decreases costly emergency room visits and hospitalizations; it’s another way pharmacists help keep Albertans healthy.”

There were 7,698 lab-confirmed cased of influenza in the province, which was down from 9,609 from the year prior.
