RED DEER — The Hurricanes were hoping to build on a four-game win streak as they hit the ice in Red Deer Tuesday night (Oct 22). The Canes wouldn’t be disappointed.

The first 20-minutes of play were subdued, with just two minor penalties against the Rebels and a single goal – for the Canes. Dino Kambeitz knocked in his fourth goal of the season, assisted by Koletrane Wilson and Logan Barlage, who took advantage of a power play.

The period ended with a 1-0 score in favour of the home team.

What the first frame lacked in action was made-up in the second. Just seconds in, the Canes Ty Prefontaine and Rebels’ Cameron Hausinger were both awarded five-minute penalties for major fighting. From there, the penalty minutes piled up for both teams through-out the period.

However, there was also a run on both nets. The Rebels’ Jayden Grubbe tied the score a minute after the opening penalty. That was followed by a trio of goals from the Hurricanes.

Justin Hall added his team’s next goal, on a power play, at 2:41. Another power play opportunity presented itself at 8:27 and Koletrane Wilson took the assist from Rylan Thiessen and D-Jay Jerome to slide the puck through the pipes. The Canes third goal of the period was provided by Oliver Okuliar – his sixth of the season.

The last goal of the period came off the stick of Rebel Zak Smith and the buzzer ended with the Canes leading 4-2.

The final 20-minutes of ice action produced a penalty for the Hurricanes and another goal for the Rebels’ Zak Smith.

The game ending score was 4-3 for the Hurricanes. The Rebels were credited with 29 shots-on-goal, to the Hurricanes 27.

The Canes are now 8-4-0-1 in the standings and sit in third place in the Central Division. They return home to host the Brandon Wheat Kings on Friday (Oct 25) night at 7:00-pm.
