John Barlow celebrates election win in Foothills

CROWSNEST PASS, AB – Conservative incumbent John Barlow looks to serve his second full term in office.

He won a strong majority of the votes in his riding, securing support from over 82% of the electorate.

“I’m very proud of the results last night – a pretty resounding mandate from my constituents here in Foothills. I think that shows that they have the confidence and trust in me and they like the job I’ve done over the last five years.”

Some of Barlow’s top priorities will continue to be agriculture, energy, and the economy, while also focusing on areas like rural crime and high-speed rural internet access.

This time, around, though, the Conservatives will be the official opposition to a projected minority Liberal government.

Barlow says this presents an incredible opportunity for his party to hold Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and the Liberals to account to a degree they were not able to do before when the Grits had a majority mandate.

He claims the party has “thrown ethics and conflicts of interests and rules out the window.”

“It’s going to be more difficult for Justin Trudeau to ram through his ideological policies as he’s done over the last four years. Our job will be to highlight when they make mistakes and try to keep some sort of fiscal sanity in the policies he’s putting forward.”

At the end of the day, Barlow feels he was elected in such strong numbers because the people of the Foothills riding wanted someone who would fight to keep the economy strong and for jobs to be safe and secure.
