Man arrested in alleged kidnapping, carjacking, and assault

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Lethbridge Police have arrested a man in connection to three high-profile incidents in recent days.

The police service claims the 40-year-old was responsible for a kidnapping on Sunday night.

According to prior reports from LPS, a man was in his car in a north side parking lot when the suspect brandished a large machete and made him withdraw cash from an ATM, drive to the Supervised Consumption Site, and then head out to the Blood Reserve.

The suspect reportedly stole the vehicle and chased the victim and a passerby as they were heading back into Lethbridge.

Police claim the same person was involved in an attempted carjacking Tuesday evening along the 200 block of 27th Street South and a robbery Wednesday morning on the 2300 block of 5th Ave North.

The suspect remains in custody and charges are pending.

According to a social media post from LPS, more details will be provided Thursday.
