LETHBRIDGE, AB – A new report from Stats Canada shows Alberta’s economy growing at a slower rate last year than the prior 12 months.

In 2018, they saw the province’s GDP grew by 1.6%, which followed a 4.8% rise in 2017.

Exports helped to drive last year’s number up, increasing by 6.5% year-over-year. Much of this was from crude oil and bitumen, as well as household spending on services (2.4%).

Investments into housing fell by 3.4% after increasing 3.1% in 2017.

Out of Canada’s 13 provinces and territories, Alberta’s real GDP saw the seventh-largest percentage growth in 2018. The national average was a change of +2%.
