Hurricanes out-shoot Tri-City but take a 3-2 loss

LETHBRIDGE — The final game in a three-game home set for the Hurricanes broke the team’s four-game win streak.

In spite of outshooting the visiting Tri-City Americans 19-4 in the first period, it was Tri-City that sat three of the four penalties and scored the lone goal. It was the only goal and the Americans led 1-0 at the buzzer.

The next 20-minutes began with Tri-City fast on the stick. Just 46 seconds in, Edge Lambert took advantage of a power play, giving the Americans a 2-0 lead.

The Hurricanes continued the shots on the American net. Around the 4:30 mark, Justin Hall appeared to slam in his own power-play shot. However, the goal went to review and was disallowed.

At the end of 40-minutes, the Canes continued to lead in shots on goal 33-10 but the Americans continued their 2-0 goal lead.

A hungry Canes team hit the ice for the final period and used that energy within 17-seconds. D-Jay Jerome potted his ninth of the season, assisted by Danila Palivko and Oliver Okuliar.

It wasn’t to be the lone goal for the Canes. Five minutes later, Alex Cotton tied the game for the second night in a row. This time assisted by Calen Addison and Oliver Okuliar on the power play.

The tie was short-lived. At the nine-minute mark, the Americans Sasha Mutala put his team ahead 3-2.

With a couple minutes left on the clock, the Canes pulled Tetachuk off the pipes but, it wasn’t enough. The visiting Americans held the score for a 3-2 win.

While Tri-City took the win, the Canes out-shot the opposition 49-16 with a single penalty to the Americans’ seven penalties, including a minor for having too many men on the ice.

The Hurricanes are now 13-5-0-3 on the season and have the week off before heading out to the west coast. The boys have a game against Victoria next Friday and Vancouver on Sunday.
