U of L and Lethbridge College Weekend Sports Recap: Nov. 8-10, 2019

LETHBRIDGE, AB – It was a successful weekend for local teams, particularly the Lethbridge College Kodiaks women’s cross-country squad. Here’s a recap of this weekend’s action.

LETHBRIDGE COLLEGE KODIAKS

The women’s cross-country team went to Grande Prairie, braved the cold and it was all worth it. The team won the CCAA national championship, with star Sophia earning a national bronze medal.

It was a fitting end to a successful season.

Meanwhile, the men’s soccer team wrapped up its first-ever appearance at nationals. They finished in 8th place. Just a few weeks ago, the Kodiaks capped a successful season with an ACAC championship win.

On the hardwood, the men and women’s basketball teams only had one game this weekend; a matchup against Medicine Hat College on Saturday (Nov. 9). The men won 94-66, while the women lost 61-50.

The women and men are on the road against Olds College for the Cancer Awareness Game/Parent Appreciation Night on Friday, Nov. 15. The women play at 6:00 p.m. with the men at 8:00 p.m.

Then Saturday, it’s a visit for to Red Deer for both teams to face Red Deer College. The women hit the court at 6:00 p.m. with the men in action at 8:00 p.m.

In volleyball, the men beat Medicine Hat College Friday (Nov. 8) 3 sets to 1, and Saturday it was a 3-0 victory in Medicine Hat.

The women didn’t fare as well, losing 3-0 Friday before a 3-1 loss on Saturday.

Both clubs are on the road this Friday and Saturday (Nov. 15 and 16) against Briercrest College. The women play at 6:00 p.m. Friday with the men on at 8:00 p.m.

On Saturday, it’s a couple of matinees with the women on at 1:00 p.m. and the men at 3:00 p.m.

U OF L PRONGHORNS

The men’s basketball team was in Brandon, Manitoba against Brandon University. On Friday (Nov. 8), they lost 103-89 before a 94-87 win on Saturday against BU.

The men host the University of Manitoba this Friday (Nov. 15) and Saturday with games at 8:00 p.m. (Friday) and 7:00 p.m. (Saturday).

The women’s team went 2-0 this weekend, with an 84-67 win in Brandon against Brandon University on Friday and a 64-54 win Saturday. They also host the University of Manitoba Friday (6:00 p.m.) and Saturday (5:00 p.m.).

On the ice, the men’s hockey team lost 6-2 in Calgary against Mount Royal University on Friday before a 4-3 win on Saturday.

The team will be in Vancouver against UBC on Friday (7:00 p.m.) and Saturday (3:00 p.m.).

The women’s team beat Mount Royal on Friday 3-1 before losing 2-0 on Saturday. The team will be on home ice for this weekend’s games against UBC.

Friday’s matchup is at 7:00 p.m. with a Saturday puck drop set for 1:00 p.m.

The U of L ringette team was also in action this weekend, competing in Calgary to wrap up their season (results not available).
