LETHBRIDGE, AB – A 24-year-old man charged in connection with two assaults on employees at Switzer Automotive last May, has been handed a global sentence of 90 days, but will not serve any additional jail time.

Prior to sentencing Rylan Vaile served 130 days in pre-trial custody, and therefore would be released from custody. He will remain on probation for a period of one year.

Vaile was sentenced Nov. 5 for three counts of assault, one count of breach of recognizance, and failure to comply with an undertaking. A sixth charge was related to Unlawfully Entering A Dwelling House.

On May 1, 2019, Mark Switzer, owner of Switzer Automotive, told Lethbridge News Now, that

An employee of his spotted a man in front of his store, looking at a vehicle. When the employee went outside to ask the man to move along, he was spat on, and then beaten. Another employee who went out to help, was also badly beaten.

One of the employees was taken to Chinook Regional Hospital where he had a CAT scan done to make sure he didn’t suffer either a concussion or other brain injury. The second employee was checked out by a doctor and suffered a badly swollen face. Both men are in their sixties.

Vaile was also the subject of a story by CHAT News in 2018. At that time a good samaritan helped Vaile get from Medicine Hat to Lethbridge after he was involved in an altercation at a local bar, by paying for his bus ticket home, and giving him $20 for food.
