Picture Butte High School to celebrate turning 70

PICTURE BUTTE – With more than 1,500 graduates since it first opened, it’s safe to say Picture Butte High School (PBHS) has had a significant impact on the community.

On the occasion of its 70^th anniversary, PBHS is opening its doors to the community to share in the celebration on Nov. 29.

While invitations have been sent out to alumni and posters have been plastered across the surrounding communities, organizers want to make it clear that everyone is invited to join in the party.

“Usually people only come into the school if they have a child attending, but we’re also looking for those in the community who maybe live four or five houses down and we’ve never seen you before,” says Cherie Secrist, of the organizing committee. “Come in and have a good time. Come dancing, have some food and check us out.”

Although the school threw a huge party for its 50^th anniversary, Joanna Johnson says so much has changed since then. Picture Butte High School would love to show off its updated shop, foods lab, library and fabrication lab.

“People have been curious since the building has been redone, so this is a chance for us to offer them that,” says the fellow committee member.

The event will be held in the school gym, with doors opening at 6 p.m. and room for 400. Tickets, which are available at the school office until Nov. 20, are $25 per person or $175 for a table of eight.

A buffet supper will begin 7 p.m. with teacher Gord Bramfield serving up brisket and the students preparing the baking and the rest of the fixings. Entertainment, featuring the Cody Hall Band, will begin at 8 p.m. and there will be plenty of time after for reminiscing. With past grad decorations will serve as table centerpieces and should also spark some memories.

They say that age is just a number, and Johnson says the school’s milestone anniversary is just a very good reason to get everyone together.

“It’s about the friendship and the community,” she says.
