LETHBRIDGE, AB – The University of Lethbridge is celebrating its athletes.

Every year, U SPORTS recognizes student athletes who excel in sport while maintaining an 80 percent average in academics as Academic All-Canadians.

Pronghorn student-athletes tied an all-time high for the school, as 74 were named Academic All-Canadians this past year. The record was previously set for the 2016-2017 season.

The U of L said that the 74 athletes account for more than 30 percent of the school’s eligible varsity athletes achieving this honour.

A dinner recognizing the student-athletes was held on November 26, hosted by U of L President Dr. Michael Mahon and his wife Maureen.

“Having over a third of our student athletes is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our student athletes as well as for the U of L as a whole,” said Sport and Recreation Executive Director Ken McInnes, in a release from the school.

“Our incredible faculty and staff support our students in so many ways it allows these student athletes to excel in the classroom as well as in the competitive arena.”

Men’s hockey, women’s soccer and women’s hockey each had 10 members who earned the All-Canadian status, followed closely by men’s swimming with nine.

Since the start of the program, 1,131 Pronghorn varsity athletes have been named Academic All-Canadians. The full list of all the recipients, courtesy of the University of Lethbridge, can be found here.
