NOBLEFORD, AB – The Coaldale Fire Department has wrapped up their investigation into a house fire that lead to one person being killed.

In the morning of Saturday, November 23rd, the Nobleford and Barons fire departments were called to a home at 222 Milnes Street in Nobleford.

The flames were reportedly very heavy in the rear addition of the structure, and firefighters noted that it was spreading quickly to the main level of the house.

A 27-year-old man was found inside and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Investigators with the Coaldale Fire Department determined the fire was accidental due to the improper disposal of smoking materials.

There was significant fire and smoke damage to the home and two nearby houses had heat damage as well.

“The Coaldale Fire Department would like to remind residents to ensure they have working smoke alarms int heir homes, and that any smoking material is disposed of in ashtrays and fully extinguished before going to bed or leave the house,” writes Coaldale Fire Chief Kevin McKeown in a media release.
