NANTON, AB – It certainly wasn’t a normal ending to a hockey game.

During the Lethbridge Lightning’s game against Nanton at the Tom Hornbecker Arena on Saturday, Nov. 30, play was stopped about 13 minutes into the first period.

The Lightning were going into their first power play of the night, with the score at 0-0, when referees were made aware of a “gaping hole” in the ice behind the Nanton net.

Officials spoke with staff at the arena, who determined that the ice was irreparable. For the safety of the players, the game was washed out.

According to the Lethbridge Lightning, there has been no decision made on what will happen with this particular game. Looking forward, the Lightning are in Ranchland Hockey League action this weekend.

They host Fort MacLeod on Friday, Dec. 6 and Kainai on Saturday, Dec. 7 at Nicholas Sheran Arena in Lethbridge. Puck drops is set for 8:30 both nights.
