LETHBRIDGE — In the second match of their four games in five nights, the Hurricanes hosted the Everett Slivertips, in the only game the two teams will play against each other this season. Both teams have 17-wins so far, with the Canes sitting third in the Central Division while Everett is second in the U.S. Division.

It didn’t take the Silvertips long to make their mark. Just two and a half minutes after the initial puck drop, Gage Goncalves single-handedly put his team on the scoreboard and it was 1-0 for Everett.

The next 13-minutes offered a number of minor penalty calls against both teams, as the Silvertips were outshooting the home team.

With four minutes remaining on the clock, several players got into a scuffle in front of Everett’s bench. Canes’ players Zack Stringer and Trever Thurston and the Silvertips’ Conrad Mitchell were benched for roughing and high-sticking. The Hurricanes killed off the penalty to get back to even strength. However, the buzzer sounded with the Silvertips leading 1-0

The next 20 minutes saw Everett continue to lead in shots-on-goal. However, Canes’ net-minder, Bryan Thomson, deflected the shots. With four minutes remaining in the period, Oliver Okuliar slid-in his 21st goal of the season, assisted by Logan Barlage and Alex Cotton. The power play goal evened the score at 1-1, which remained at the end of the period.

The Silvertips led shots-on-goal 28-14 during 40-minutes of play.

When the puck dropped on the final frame the Silvertips came back with a vengeance. Once minute in, Gage Concalves scored his second of the game on a power play, upping the score to 2-1. After another four minutes of action, Martin Fasko-Rudas goes it alone on the Canes’ net and improves Everett’s goal count, taking the score to 3-1.

The teams played out the period but, the score remained at 3-1, with the Silvertips out-shooting the Canes 37-24.

The Canes are now 17-9-0-4 in the standings and get Thursday night off before hosting the Medicine Hat Tigers on Friday night, for the “Toque and Teddy Bear” toss.
