New players for U of L women’s soccer and hockey teams

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The University of Lethbridge Pronghorns soccer program has made its first signing of the 2020 recruiting class.

Drew Dortman is the first player from the Pronghorn Elite Preparation (PEP) Academy program to commit to the women’s soccer club.

The midfielder originally from Spiritwood, Saskatchewan is a product of the Lethbridge Football Club (LFC). She’s played the last two seasons in the Alberta Major Soccer League with LFC.

She made 23 appearances over those two seasons with the team.

According to a release from the U of L’s Athletics and Recreation department, Dortman started with LFC at the U12 age group. She was a member of two outdoor provincial bronze medal winning teams.

Dortman was also the captain of the LFC U16 and U17 teams. She also has experience playing volleyball in both the high school and club levels.

While at Catholic Central High School, she was part of two league championships and in 2018, she was a part of the Catholic Central team that finished fifth at the 4A provincials.

PRONGHORNS HOCKEY

The women’s hockey team has announced the signing of blue-liner Emma Neff.

The 5-foot-8 Calgary player is in her third season with the Midget AAA Calgary Fire in the Alberta Female Hockey League. Through 14 games this season, she’s scored two goals and recorded two assists.

In each of the past two seasons, Neff has played in 30 games for the Fire.

Last season, she scored two goals to go with four assists. Two seasons ago, she had two goals and two assists in her first year with the program.

Neff is the second signing for the 2020-2021 season for the women’s hockey team after the commitment of Mallory Dyer from the Edge Academy.

The women’s hockey team is currently on their semester break and return to conference play January 3 and 4, hosting the Regina Cougars.
