Chef Stella's Dining and Catering in Downtown Lethbridge encourages passers by to shop locally

New Lethbridge “ShopTogetherYQL” initiative unveiled

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Posting a picture of your, your family or friends with the hashtag “ShopTogetherYQL” on Instagram could win you a $1,000 downtown Lethbridge shopping spree in January.

Today marks the beginning of the new Lethbridge Chamber of Commerce, Downtown BRZ and Economic Development Lethbridge initiative, which will run until Jan. 5, 2020.

Chamber of Commerce Executive Officer Cyndi Vos says they wanted to drum up more excitement not just about the holiday season, but also about local businesses throughout the city.

“Lethbridge business really sees a positive effect when people shop local. The holiday season is one of those seasons when people are out and about eating, they’re shopping, they’re taking in events and all sorts of things. And when that happens locally, the money stays local. Our employees are benefitted, our businesses are benefit (ted). Everybody wins.”

Vos explains that the end goal is to get everyone excited, to showcase local employees, products and businesses – and to offer the public some incentive.

“Our city’s new tag line is ‘Brighter Together’ and so we really want our Lethbridge businesses and our Lethbridge community to really bring that to life.”

Anyone who would like to enter the contest can do so by taking a picture of themselves as they are shopping locally, post it to Instagram, and add the hashtag “ShopTogetherYQL.”

A random entry will be drawn in early January and the winner will receive the $1,000 downtown shopping credit.
