Lethbridge Police taking over search for missing man Marshal Iwaasa

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Although RCMP have called off their search for 26-year-old Marshal Iwaasa, LPS says they will continue to investigate his disappearance.

He was last seen by his family in Lethbridge on November 17th, 2019. Iwaasa told his family that he was returning to Calgary but has not been seen or heard from since.

A week later, Pemberton, B.C. RCMP reported that they found a burned-out vehicle in the backcountry that belonged to Iwaasa.

Family were notified of the vehicle recovery and subsequently reported him missing.

Whistler RCMP Sgt. Rob Knapton told LNN that the vehicle was likely there for a few days before it was found.

Sgt. Knapton said they had suspended their search unless new information became available.

“We’ve ceased our efforts to search in this area because we’ve exhausted the area. We’ve searched the area we believe he may be in, and aside from that without any indications to point us to another specific area, it would be searching the areas of B.C., which would not be practical. However, we will continue to evaluate evidence and information that comes to us, and if we find other areas to search, we will definitely look at that.”

Iwaasa is described as 5’11” tall, approximately 170 lbs with brown eyes, shoulder-length brown hair that is usually worn tied back, and a mustache.

When last seen, he was wearing a green hoodie, grey toque, red hi-top shoes, and black pants.

His truck is described as a dark blue 2009 GMC Sierra, bearing Alberta license plate BLL-1099.
