Teen charged with north Lethbridge stabbing to remain behind bars

LETHBRIDGE, AB – A 19-year-old charged with aggravated assault and theft of a vehicle in connection with a swarming and stabbing in north Lethbridge earlier this month, will stay behind bars over the Christmas holidays.

Alexander Roxby Strya appeared briefly in Lethbridge Provincial Court via CCTV Monday morning (Dec. 16.) He is scheduled to be back in court Jan. 8, 2020.

According to Lethbridge Police, around 11:30 p.m. Dec. 5, a citizen heard a commotion in the alley along the 200 bl. of Mayor Magrath Dr. N. and saw a group of people running. A call for help was heard, and after going to check the area, the citizen found a 16-year-old suffering from stab wounds. He was taken to a Calgary hospital with serious injuries.

During their investigation, police determined that an 18-year-old female had made arrangement to meet the 16-year-old. Unbeknownst to him, a group of people were hiding in the alley waiting to assault him. The victim was punched, kicked, stabbed, and left at the scene.

The next day, police executed a search warrant on a home and found what they believed to be the knife used in the stabbing. Five people in total were charged, including Strya, Trinity Savard, 18, and three young offenders ages 16 and 17.

Strya is also facing charges in connection with two other serious incidents including theft of a motor vehicle and mischief after a Buick Enclave SUV was stolen in October, and another incident in Aug. 2018 where he was charged with possession of a dangerous weapon, and disguise with intent to commit an indictable offense.
