Vehicle stop leads to arrest, recovery of drugs and cash

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Lethbridge Police have charged a man after seizing drugs following a vehicle stop.

LPS said that on December 15, at around 2:25 p.m., they responded to a report of someone driving erratically along McMaster Boulevard in west Lethbridge. The vehicle was located a short time later.

The driver displayed signs of drug impairment, according to LPS. He was arrested and police say a search of his jacket and vehicle resulted in the seizure of drug paraphernalia and a large quantity of drugs.

LPS said the drugs include 12 Dexedrine pills, 35 dextroamphetamine pills, 6.2 grams of methamphetamine, 228 LSD blotters, 0.9 grams of hash, 3 psilocybin candies, 12.4 grams of MDMA, 4.9 grams of Ketamine, 0.6 grams of Dimethyltryptamine and 62.4 grams of cannabis.

Police say they also seized more than $400 in cash. The street value of the drugs is estimated at more than $4,000.

28-year-old Michael Andrew Douglas Yanish is charged with six counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and one count of possession of the proceeds of crime.

Yanish was released from custody following a Judicial Interim Release hearing and is scheduled to appear in court on January 9, 2020.
