SWIFT CURRENT — The Broncos were looking for revenge at home Monday (Dec 30) night, after losing to the Hurricanes 6-0 in the first game of a home-and-home on Saturday night in Lethbridge.

Swift Current was the first to score in the game, but it didn’t come until the 14-minute mark, off the puck of Tyler Smithies. It was enough to give the Broncos the lead through the first 20-minutes, despite Lethbridge leading shots-on-goal 13-9.

The Hurricanes owned the second frame. Within the first minute, Logan Barlage parlayed a power play opportunity into a tying goal, assisted by Alex Thacker and Alex Cotton. The one-all tie held until the buzzer closed out the period.

The final 20-minutes got under way with the two teams fairly even in shots-on-goal. It wasn’t until the nine-minute mark that the Canes took the lead. Justin Hall lobbed the puck in from the front of the net on an assist from Logan Barlage, giving the Canes a 2-1 lead.

The Hurricanes continued to advance in shots-on-goal. However, the final goal didn’t come until the last minute of play. With eight seconds to go in regulation, Justin Hall tallied his second of the game on an empty net and the Canes took the game 3-1.

The game’s three stars: #1 – Canes’ Carl Tetachuk; #2 – Broncos’ Isaac Poulter; #3 – Canes’ Justin Hall.

The Hurricanes are in second place in the Central Division at 23-10-0-5 in the standings. The team’s next game is Friday, January 3, when they host the Seattle Thunderbirds.
