LETHBRIDGE, AB – Hockey Alberta has named its inductees for the class of 2020 hall of fame.

Nine of the spots go to individual players, coaches, broadcasters, and even a government Minister of Youth, while one will recognize a team that saw great success.

The 1974-1975 Lethbridge Native Sons team won gold at that year’s Canada Winter Games on home ice, where more than 5,000 fans cheered them on.

They went 4-1 in the round-robin tournament, eventually defeating Nova Scotia 6-3 in the final.

“Long-time residents still talk about this game, the number of people that packed the Canada Games Complex, and the pride the community had and still has for this team,” reads a media release from Hockey Alberta.

The Native Sons finished the season with a 31-2 regular-season record and were undefeated in 12 league playoff games.

Team members being inducted include:

  • Goaltenders: Gary Warner and Garry Clark
  • Defencemen: Dennis Hatt, Dave Hougan, Darrell Osmond, Randy Lowe, Ken Klinkhammer, and Gordie Gejdos
  • Forwards: Mark Scheibner, Joe Meli, Glen Scheibner, Greg Kveder, Albert Dumont, Terry Roberts, Ron Simmons, Reg Osmond, Dwayne Howell, Gino Guzzi, Vic Stasiuk
  • Staff: Howie Yanosik (Coach), Jerry LeGrandeur (Assistant Coach), Hans DeGroot (Manager), Pete Vanderhilt (Trainer), and Darren Visosky (Equipment)

The Alberta Hockey Hall of Fame Class of 2020 will be inducted at a ceremony in Canmore on Sunday, July 19th.
