Standoff man charged after allegedly threatening Community Peace Officer

CARDSTON, AB – A 24-year-old man from Standoff has been charged, after allegedly threatening a Community Peace Officer (CPO) with a knife around 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 31.

According to RCMP, the CPO requested police help with a high risk arrest during which the CPO was allegedly threatened with a knife.

RCMP attended, and after issuing a series of commands, the man put the knife down but ran away. He was caught a short distance away after a minor confrontation and taken into custody.

No one was injured.

Brenden Kurt Eagle Speaker has been charged with four counts of assaulting police officer, resisting/obstructing a peace officer, failure to comply with a probation order and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

He has been released from custody, but is expected back in Cardston Provincial Court Jan. 6.
