LETHBRIDGE — After three wins in a row the Canes took a 5-4 O-T loss to Seattle Friday night and were looking to get back on the plus side Saturday night, when they hosted the Calgary Hitmen. What the Canes got was another over-time loss – 2-1.

Four minutes into the game, Noah Boyko appeared to have found the opponent’s net on a power play, however, the goal went to review and was deemed a ‘no goal’.

It wasn’t until past the mid-way point of the period that Justin Hall planted his eleventh goal of the season, off an assist from Noah Boyko and Jet Jones.

The Canes were up 1-0, but it was short-lived. At 16:45, Calgary’s Orca Wiesblatt tied the game on a power play. The 1-1 score remained at the buzzer.

The second frame offered up not a single goal – just a succession of penalties. At 14:33, Calgary’s Jakcson van de Leest took a penalty for Interference on the Canes’ goalie.

With 90 seconds left in the frame, Mark Kastelic of the Hitmen and the Canes’ Koletrane Wilson dropped the gloves. Both players were tapped with five-minute majors for fighting.

The final 30-seconds of the game produced two more penalties, both against the Hitmen for Roughing and Slashing, and the period ended with a continuing 1-1 tie.

The Hurricanes began the final 20-minutes with a five on three man-advantage and then five on four. However, no goals resulted. The period produced one minor penalty and remained tied 1-1 at the end of regulation, sending the game into over-time for the second night in a row.

Calgary’s Mark Kastelic gets the winning goal just 18-seconds into O-T.

The Hurricanes get a single point and are 23-10-2-5 on the season and get a chance to redeem themselves against the Hitmen next Friday (Jan 10) in Calgary.
