Fisheries management open house coming to Lethbridge

Jan 8, 2020 | 11:50 AM

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The provincial government wants to hear your thoughts on angling in Alberta.

Lethbridge is one of 11 stopovers for a government tour on fisheries management.

Beginning next week, open houses will be held to collect residential feedback on proposals to open up new opportunities for recreational harvest at specific lakes in Alberta.

The sessions will also include detailed information on current fisheries management in the province.

The Lethbridge event will take place on Monday, January 20 at the Lethbridge Public Library (810 5 Avenue South).

“Whether you prefer making the trek to a favorite spot off the beaten path or taking the kids to a stocked pond just outside the city, fishing is a part of Alberta’s cultural fabric. ” said Minister of Environment and Parks Jason Nixon in a notice from the provincial government.

“We promised to modernize a number of the province’s environmental provisions, and we look forward to listening to Albertans’ feedback.”

Nixon added that as an angler and outdoorsman himself, he’s looking forward to working with residents and government to make the province’s fisheries “strong, healthy, vibrant and sustainable for generations to come”.

Feedback gathered during the open houses will be reflected in the 2020 Alberta Sportfish Regulations, which come into effect on April 1.

All sessions will run from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., with some dates featuring sessions in multiple communities.
