14 Firearms seized from Brocket area home -- Piikani RCMP

Piikani RCMP find stolen hay bales, then turn up cache of firearms, ammunition and drugs

BROCKET — There was quite the haul for Piikani Nation RCMP on Monday (Jan. 6). Around 3:30 that afternoon, officers located hay bales that had been stolen from Pincher Creek, at a residence near Brocket. Police applied for a warrant to enter the home and located one man who was arrested without incident.

During a further execution of a search warrant, officers located and seized fourteen firearms, a large amount of ammunition, and a quantity of methamphetamine. Police also recovered a truck that was reported stolen out of Pincher Creek earlier that morning.

Jessie Flett, a 33-year-old male from Fort Vermillion, Alta. Faces 34 charges :

Possession of property obtained by crime, over $5000; Possession of property obtained by crime, less then $5000; Mischief over $5000; Two charges of Possession of a weapon obtained by crime; Possession of methamphetamine; Alter/Destroy/Remove a vehicle identification number (VIN); Eleven-Charges of Careless use of a firearm; 14-Charges of Unauthorized possession of a weapon; Two charges of Fail to comply with Recognizance

Flett was remanded after a judicial release hearing and is scheduled to appear in Lethbridge Provincial Court on Thursday, January 9.

Cst. Russell Stepanick of the Piikani Nation Detachment, calls the search warrant effort, “A great example of an intelligence-led investigation where stolen property, firearms, and illicit drugs were recovered”.

“Our detachment will continue to work with community partners and residents to address the concerns of illegal activities, with the goal of working together to keep our community safe.”
