Operation Red Nose provides over 860 safe rides home during the holiday season in Lethbridge

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The 25th installment of Operation Red Nose turned out some strong numbers.

The program had volunteers provide safe rides home to citizens throughout the holiday season. Donations raised went to the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns Athletics programs and teams.

Over 10 nights, 868 safe rides were provided across the local community. On New Year’s Eve alone, Operation Red Nose provided 94 safe rides home in Lethbridge.

For the 2019 holiday season, the program collected $21,608.50 in donations from people who utilized the service, as well as $18,450.00 in corporate donations. That brings the total to $40,058.50.

“ORN is a major initiative for Pronghorn Athletics, and the U of L, to give back to our community,” said Sport and Recreation Executive Director Ken McInnes in a school-issued release.

“The donations that are made by those who use the service flow directly to the respective teams and are used to support our athletic pursuits. So, THANK YOU!”

Over the last 25 years, Operation Red Nose has raised over $814,000 to support Pronghorn teams.

Across the 10 nights of the campaign, 519 volunteers helped to provide rides, ensuring people made it home safe and sound during the holiday season.

Across the country, Operation Red Nose celebrated its 36th year this holiday season. It operates in multiple communities across the country. 69,029 motorists were driven home safely thanks to the help of 48,606 volunteers.
