Taber men arrested on drugs, weapons, and property-related charges

TABER, AB – Taber Police Service (TPS) have arrested two local men on a wide range of charges.

They were called to a home in the community where a break and enter was reportedly taking place.

According to TPS, they were informed that the home was allegedly being used for illegal drug activities and that firearms were being carelessly stored.

The area was secured while police obtained a search warrant.

Terry Van Huizen, 29, of Taber, has been charged with break and enter to a dwelling house to commit theft, mischief under $5,000, theft under $5,000, and possession of methamphetamine and cocaine.

Huizen was held for a bail hearing and released by a justice. He is scheduled to appear in court January 21st.

Following the search, TPS claims to have found several unsecured firearms, cash, and a large amount of drugs.

This includes 95 packages of THC edibles, 70 packages of THC Shatter, 346 grams of cannabis, 230 THC cartridges for vaporizers, 13 grams of suspected cocaine, 54 grams of suspected methamphetamine, and other drug trafficking paraphernalia.

Matthew Erick, 27, of Taber, is charged with possession of cocaine and methamphetamine for the purpose of unlawful distribution, possession of property obtained from the proceeds of crime, careless storage of firearms, and possession of a prohibited weapon for a stun gun.

Erick was held for a bail hearing and released by a justice. He is scheduled to appear in court February 11th.
