Taber rallying support for Kraft Hockeyville 2020

TABER, AB – Communities across the country are coming together to try to secure the grand prize in this year’s Kraft Hockeyville contest.

The winning town will get to host an NHL game and receive $250,000 to go towards arena upgrades and renovations.

In a post submitted by Kattie S., she writes that the town’s passionate love for hockey goes a long way back and is a vital part of the community.

The Taber Ice Arena has two rinks, including an NHL-regulation sized rink that can seat 1,500 people.

“The arena needs some much needed love and attention,” says Kattie S. “The change rooms and washrooms are in need of repair, with tile in the showers remaining beyond their life expectancy. Boards and glass can always use replacing, and new floors are needed throughout the buildin[g].”

While many of the 8,400 people who call Taber home and those in the surrounding areas use the facility, “budget limitations make it hard for the Town to make many of these upgrades.”

The nomination period opened on January 1st and continues until February 9th.

So far, the Taber Ice Arena is the only one in southern Alberta to have submitted a nomination.

By submitting a nomination story, sharing it on social media, or adding to the nomination package, you can collect points that will help to ensure your local arena makes it to the next stage.
