LPS lay charges in vehicle thefts and hit-and runs

LETHBRIDGE — A 31-year old city man faces an initial 14 charges in relation to vehicle thefts and several hit-and-run incidents.

On Thursday (Jan 16), officers attempted to arrest a man who had allegedly stolen a Ford F-350, as the vehicle was driven away from a south-side convenience store. However, when the suspect refused stop, police discontinued the chase due to public safety.

The following day (Jan 17), police received numerous calls about the same vehicle being involved in three separate hit-and-runs on the south side.

The heavily damaged truck was located in Coaldale, where the suspect ditched the vehicle and stole another half-ton truck. The suspect returned to Lethbridge and eventually abandoned the second vehicle.

While conducting patrols Friday evening, officers located and arrested Daniel McFadden at the Supervised Consumption Site.

McFadden is in custody awaiting a hearing on the following charges: two charges of Possession of stolen property over $5000; Possession of stolen property under $5000; three charges of Failing to stop for an officer; Resisting arrest; four charges of Failing to comply with release conditions; two charges of Driving without insurance; and Possession of Break and Enter tools.

Police continue to investigate the hit-and-run incidents and further charges are expected.
