Lethbridge Sports Hall of Fame accepting nominations for 2020 class

LETHBRIDGE, AB – You can nominate someone to be inducted into the Lethbridge Sports Hall of Fame.

The organization has inducted more than 320 people since launching in 1985. The mandate of the Lethbridge Sports Hall of Fame is to celebrate not only current athletes and members of the sports community, but also those who have excelled in sport at some time since the founding of the city.

“The Lethbridge Sports Hall of Fame is about recognizing the history and the stories of those who have committed their lives to sports in southern Alberta,” Dave McMurray, the Hall of Fame’s president, stated in a release.

“The sports history of our city dates back to its earliest days, meaning there are countless stories to be recognized, along with new chapters to be written. We encourage everyone to put forward nominees who helps us build on that legacy.”

Nominations can be made in the following categories:

· Athlete: recognizing those who have distinguished themselves in competition in Lethbridge or elsewhere over a prolonged period at the provincial, national, international or professional level.

· Team: recognizing Lethbridge-based teams that have won a national, international or world championship, or have achieved the highest possible award at their level of competition.

· Builder: to formally recognize the initiative, leadership and dedication of those individuals who participate in the development of sport.

· Special award: recognizing individuals and/or organizations that have made an outstanding and valuable contribution to sports of to the community of Lethbridge through sports. This category is to reward those who have made these significant contributions but do not qualify under the other categories.

The 2020 induction ceremony is set to take place on Friday, May 1. The deadline for nominations Is January 31, 2020.
