Hurricanes pick up 4-3 road win against Saskatoon

SASKATOON, SK – As their road trip continues, the Hurricanes were looking to rebound after a Friday night loss to Prince Albert as they took on the Saskatoon Blades in Saskatchewan Saturday night.

FIRST PERIOD

The game started off with a minor penalty called on Lethbridge’s Zack Stringer, for tripping 3:47 in. Although it wasn’t on the power play, Kyle Crnkovic scored at 5:51, to put Saskatoon up 1-0.

The opening frame wouldn’t see another goal until much later, but many penalties were called:

  • Radek Kucerik (Saskatoon) for high sticking (minor) at 9:18.
  • Oliver Okuliar (Lethbridge) for tripping (minor) at 10:17.
  • Jayden Wiens (Saskatoon) for hooking (minor) at 14:41.
  • Caiden Daley (Saskatoon) for tripping (minor) at 18:20

Before the buzzer sounded, Lethbridge’s Brett Davis tied the game! His 13th goal of the season was assisted by Dylan Cozens and Alex Cotton.

SECOND PERIOD

28 seconds in, Logan Barlage scored his 18th of the year, thanks to assists from Justin Hall and Zack Stringer. At the 2:22 mark, Marek Schneider was called for tripping, putting Lethbridge on the power play.

Minutes later, at 4:45, Chase Wheatcroft received a minor penalty for cross checking. Brett Davis was the one to respond, putting Lethbridge up 3-1 at the 6:25 mark, his second of the game.

At 7:53, Nick Dorrington and Riley McKay got into it, both receiving a major penalty for fighting. Logan Barlage was later given a minor for roughing at 8:23, but the Blades couldn’t take advantage.

At 12:35, Saskatoon goalie Nolan Maier was issued a minor penalty but that was served by Alex Morozoff. At the 15:08 mark, Koletrane Wilson scored his sixth of the season on assists from Ty Prefontaine and Ty Nash, putting Lethbridge up 4-1.

Kyle Crnkovic would respond, scoring his second of the game at the 19:07 mark. Koletrane Wilson was then called for a penalty at 19:24 as the period came to a close.

THIRD PERIOD

Saskatoon came out fighting, with Colton Dach scoring 1:30 into the final frame. Minutes went by before Ty Prefontaine was issued a minor penalty for holding at the 13:44 mark, putting Saskatoon on the power play.

That would be all she wrote, as the rest of the period went by with no goals from either team, resulting in a win for the Lethbridge Hurricanes!

The ‘Canes wrap up their road trip Wednesday, February 5 in Red Deer against the Rebels. The Blades meanwhile, take on the Regina Pats on Wednesday.
