Alberta RCMP to play Cupid this month, attempting to ‘shoot down’ vehicle thefts

Feb 4, 2020 | 3:02 PM

EDMONTON, AB – Alberta RCMP will play Cupid for the month of February – trying to protect Albertans’ vehicles through social media with #VehicleValentines.

The reason behind the effort is very simple!

Last year alone, there were almost 10,000 vehicle thefts in Alberta, and in February specifically, almost 700 vehicles were stolen.

Twice a week, through the #VehicleValentines hashtag, RCMP will be sending quick tips to keep vehicles safe from thieves during this LOVEly month.

Some tips they’ll be reminding people of are:

– Lock your doors

– Don’t keep your valuables in your vehicle

– Use a steering wheel lock

– Lock your garage

– Take your garage door opener out of your vehicle

Since starting this project for 2018-2019, there has been a 5 per cent decrease in vehicle thefts and RCMP look to halt every theft that they can.
