33-year-old Lethbridge man facing sexual assault charges

LETHBRIDGE, AB – A 33-year-old Lethbridge man is facing several charges in relation to an alleged sexual assault that occurred in a woman’s residence between late Friday night (Feb. 7), and early Saturday morning (Feb. 8).

According to Lethbridge Police, an 18-year-old went to a bar in the 1200 blk. of 1 Ave. S. with a friend on Friday. There, the two met a man, and a short time later the 18-year-old began to feel unwell.

The man offered to drive the woman and her friend to their homes, and after taking the 18-year-old inside her home, he left. However, police say a short time later he returned, went back into the house and sexually assaulted her.

The victim was taken to Chinook Regional Hospital and released sometime on Saturday.

Police were able to identify the suspect, get a search warrant and recover evidence including the woman’s cell phone at his residence.

33-year-old Sohil Bindra has been charged with housebreaking and commit sexual assault, along with two counts of sexual assault. He has been released from custody on the condition he have no contact with the victim or witnesses, not attend within 200 metres of the woman’s home, and that he stay away from any bars or pubs.

He is expected to be back in Lethbridge Provincial Court March 2.
