ASIRT seeking witnesses in Blairmore shooting

BLAIRMORE, AB – One day after an officer-involved shooting took place in Blairmore, the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) is looking for witnesses.

LNN previously reported that the incident took place around 5:00 pm Tuesday in the parking lot of the local Home Hardware between a man in a truck and two RCMP officers.

A confrontation ensued, which resulted in both officers discharging their service pistols. The vehicle involved traveled a short distance and then entered a ditch.

The male driver was found and later pronounced deceased. The two Mounties were not injured.

“ASIRT’s investigation will focus on the actions of police during this incident, while the RCMP will maintain responsibility for the investigation that led to the traffic stop,” reads a media release from ASIRT.

Anyone who might have information on this incident or was a witness of it is asked to call ASIRT at 403-592-4306.

As their investigation is underway, no further details are being released at this time.
