Family Day service changes and things to do in Lethbridge

LETHBRIDGE, AB – With the Family Day weekend fast approaching, the City of Lethbridge wants residents to know that there will be several service changes and closures on the holiday Monday, but also some fun activities throughout the city.

Lethbridge 311 will be closed on Monday, Feb. 17. For those who would like to submit a service request, they can do so at 311.lethbridge.ca. City Hall and Stafford Centre will also be closed, but parking will be free throughout the downtown.

The Lethbridge Animal Shelter will be closed, while Transit will be running on its Sunday/Holiday schedule from 8 a.m. until 7 p.m. Access-a-Ride offices will be closed, however busses will be running that day on a holiday service schedule as well.

For those whose normal garbage/recycling pickup is Monday, curbside collection will NOT be affected.

Both public library locations in downtown Lethbridge and The Crossings, along with the Bookmobile will be closed.

Activities

While many city services will be closed, there will be plenty of opportunities for families and anyone else to get out and about.

The Galt Museum will be hosting a pancake brunch with crafts and other activities from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. Admission is free, and registration is not required.

The Helen Schuler Nature Centre will also be open from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. and Casa will host a variety of events from 12 p.m. until 3 p.m.

The annual University of Lethbridge Family Play Day will take place from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the First Choice Savings Centre. Admission is free.

While the Fritz Sick pool will be closed, Stan Siwik and Nicholas Sheran pools will be open to the public from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. Regular admission rates apply.

The only arena that will remain open will be the Nicholas Sheran arena, from 12 p.m. until 2 p.m. for a free public skate. All other arenas will be closed.

And the Cor Van Raay YMCA will be open from 8 a.m. until 8:30 p.m. (fitness area will close at 8 p.m.) Regular admission rates will apply.
