Hurricanes fall to Oil Kings in Family Day matchup

EDMONTON, AB – A crowd of over 11,000 was in Edmonton for a Family Day matchup between the Oil Kings and visiting Lethbridge Hurricanes on Monday afternoon.

FIRST PERIOD

The scoring started early, with Brett Davis putting Lethbridge on the board 2:52 in, thanks to the assists from Calen Addison and Justin Hall.

At the 4:01 mark, Dylan Cozen was given a minor penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct, putting Edmonton on the power play. Josh Williams took advantage, tying things up at 5:37.

The action went back and forth, until Chase Wheatcroft (Lethbridge) was called for slashing at 14:18. Edmonton’s Ethan McIndoe was then called for tripping at 14:27.

Wyatt McLeod then put Edmonton up 2-1, scoring at the 16:05 mark before Josh Williams’ second goal of the period gave the Oil Kings a 3-1 lead heading into the second period.

SECOND PERIOD

Before the game would see another goal, Vladimir Alistrov (Edmonton) was given a minor penalty for hooking 2:08 into the second.

Ty Prefontaine (Lethbridge) was called for cross checking at the 5:22 mark.

Neither team was able to capitalize. However, Brett Davis scored his second of the game at the 10:26 mark, closing the gap in the score for Lethbridge.

The game’s score was at 3-2 before Davis was called for slashing at the 15:34 mark as the period came to a close.

THIRD PERIOD

4:37 into the final frame, Josh Williams earned his third goal of the game, increasing Edmonton’s lead to 4-2 over the ‘Canes.

For extra measure, Jake Neighbours boosted Edmonton’s lead to 5-2 at 17:12.

Koletrane Wilson put one in for Lethbridge at the 19:04 mark. Unfortunately, that wasn’t enough, and Edmonton came away with the 5-3 victory.

Up next for the Hurricanes is a matchup with Spokane in Lethbridge on Wednesday, Feb. 19 at 7:00 p.m. The Oil Kings are in Winnipeg against the ICE on Wednesday.
