Bundle up: Coldest Night of the Year charity walk set for this Saturday

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Residents can come together this weekend to help put a freeze on poverty.

The annual Coldest Night of the Year walk takes place on Saturday, February 22.

Lethbridge is one of many communities across Canada that holds a walk.

Hosted for the ninth year by Streets Alive Mission, funds raised will help the hungry, hurting and homeless clients they serve.

The goal in Lethbridge is to raise $60,000 and so far, as of Tuesday morning, $27,428 has been collected.

Streets Alive Mission said there are 130 walkers on 23 teams.

They stated by “walking together in the chill of the night, participants will better understand the experience of being on the streets during a cold Canadian winter”.

Saturday’s event will take place at the Evangelical Free Church of Lethbridge.

There are two different route options, a two-kilometre option and a five-kilometre in a rotating circuit from the host location at 4717 24 Avenue South.

Registration opens at 4:00 p.m. on February 22 with the opening ceremonies at 5:00 p.m. and the walk beginning at 5:15 p.m.

There will also be food provided to all walkers and volunteers from 6 until 8:00 p.m.
